General Description

The Acropora caroliniana Coral, commonly known as Tabling Acropora Coral, exhibits a striking green color morph with beautifully colored branches that enhance the architectural beauty characteristic of reef-building Acropora corals. This coral species is highly sought after by collectors and reef enthusiasts for its unique appearance and rapid growth rate.

Demands and Hardiness (setup)

Acropora caroliniana thrives best in an established reef aquarium environment with bright lighting, preferably provided by intense metal halides. Alternatively, multiple T-5 or compact fluorescent lamps can also support its growth if placed high within the tank. Maintaining high pH, alkalinity, calcium levels, and keeping phosphate and nitrate levels as close to zero as possible are crucial for maximizing growth and overall health. This coral can be cultured and propagated from living fragments under ideal conditions.

Lighting

Ideal lighting conditions for Acropora caroliniana range from moderate to high. High-output fluorescent bulbs (T5) are suitable, but more intense lighting such as metal halide (MH) lamps may benefit the coral, though an extended acclimation period might be necessary due to potential color changes.

Water Flow

Acropora caroliniana thrives with strong, intermittent water flow within the aquarium, best achieved through a combination of a wavemaker and multiple powerheads. Adequate water movement is essential for the health and development of this coral species.

Feeding

While Acropora corals largely rely on their zooxanthellae for nutrition, they can also benefit from direct feeding. Offering a mix of meaty rotifer-based foods with vitamin additives and highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) can support the coral's health. Feeding small-sized food particles directly to the polyps using a turkey baster is recommended.

Propagation

Acropora caroliniana is a suitable candidate for aquaculture and has been propagated extensively in captivity. With proper care and attention, sustainable harvesting efforts can be achieved over time.

Localization & Habitat

Found predominantly in the Indo-Pacific region, Acropora caroliniana inhabits various islands, including Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Placing this coral in the middle to the top region of the aquarium mimics its natural habitat and promotes its well-being.
