General Description
The Maricultured Bali Acropora efflorescens Coral is a plating coral that exhibits a variety of colors, some featuring beautiful blue tips. It can be cultured and propagated from living fragments under ideal conditions.
Demands and Hardiness
This coral thrives in a moderate to high light environment and requires strong alternating water currents within the aquarium. Additional calcium, strontium, and trace elements supplementation is essential for its continued good health. It hosts symbiotic algae zooxanthellae for most of its nutritional needs and can feed on micro-plankton or specialized coral foods.
Lighting
Acropora efflorescens benefits from high lighting levels, with options including high-output fluorescent bulbs (T5) or even more intense lighting like metal halides. Coloration may vary based on the lighting provided, with potential for dramatic color changes depending on tank conditions.
Water Flow
Strong water movement is crucial for the well-being of Acropora efflorescens coral, as it mimics its natural habitat and aids in its overall health and growth within the aquarium setup.
Feeding
While mainly relying on zooxanthellae products, Acropora can also benefit from direct feeding with a variety of frozen fish foods. Offering a mix of rotifer-based foods with vitamin additives and highly unsaturated fatty acids is recommended.
Propagation
Acropora efflorescens is extensively propagated in captivity and is considered an excellent candidate for aquaculture, hinting at the possibility of achieving sustainable harvesting in the future.
Localization & Habitat
Indigenous to the Indo-Pacific region, Acropora efflorescens can be found in various islands like Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Placement in the aquarium should be towards the bottom to middle region for optimal growth and well-being.
