General Description
The Acropora granulosa coral, also known as Maricultured Bali Acropora granulosa Coral, is a bushy Acropora species that can be cultured and propagated from living fragments or broken pieces under ideal conditions. It hosts symbiotic algae zooxanthellae within its body, primarily deriving its nutritional requirements from photosynthesis. While it does not require additional food, it can benefit from feeding on micro-plankton or filter-feeding invertebrate foods.
Demands and Hardiness
This coral thrives in aquariums with moderate to high lighting and strong alternating water currents. For optimal health, supplementing the water with calcium, strontium, and other trace elements is necessary. The Maricultured Bali Acropora granulosa Corals come mounted on small live rock pieces, facilitating easy and secure placement within reef aquarium rockwork.
Lighting
High lighting levels are recommended for Acropora granulosa corals, as they can be kept under high output fluorescent bulbs (T5) or benefit from more intense lighting like metal halide (MH). Acropora's coloration may vary depending on the lighting provided, and they might undergo color changes under intense lighting, taking on different hues depending on tank conditions.
Water Flow
Acropora granulosa corals thrive in environments with strong water movement, requiring consistent and robust water flow within the aquarium to maintain their health and well-being.
Feeding
While Acropora primarily rely on photosynthesis, direct feeding can be beneficial. Feeding them a mix of small, meaty rotifer-based foods with vitamin additives and highly unsaturated fatty acids is recommended. It's essential to ensure that the food size is small enough for the polyps to ingest efficiently.
Propagation
Acropora granulosa is suitable for aquaculture and has been extensively propagated in captivity. With proper care and sustainable practices, this coral genus can be successfully propagated over time, contributing to conservation efforts.
Localization & Habitat
Acropora granulosa corals are native to the Indo-Pacific region, specifically found in various islands such as Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Placing them in the middle to top regions of the aquarium best replicates their natural habitat preferences.
