General Description

The Neon Green Starburst Polyp, also known as Short Tentacle Coral, is characterized by its bright purple base with green polyps, featuring distinctive eight-leaved tentacles on each polyp. This colonial animal consists of multiple individual polyps attached to a hard surface, displaying an encrusting growth pattern that quickly spreads over adjacent rockwork, coral, or aquarium glass.

Demands and Hardiness

These peaceful corals have the ability to retract or deflate their polyps in response to predation, making them compatible with neighboring corals but vulnerable to aggressive species. They are suitable for reef aquarists of all experience levels and thrive in environments with medium to high lighting and medium to strong water movement. Regular supplementation of iodine and trace elements is crucial for their well-being.

Lighting

The Neon Green Starburst Polyp requires moderate to high lighting levels to support the photosynthetic activity of the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae hosted within its tissues.

Water Flow

A medium to strong water flow within the aquarium is recommended to maintain optimal health for the Neon Green Starburst Polyp, ensuring proper nutrient distribution and waste removal.

Feeding

These corals primarily obtain their nutritional needs through the photosynthesis performed by their zooxanthellae. Supplementing their diet with zooplankton can further enhance their health and vitality.

Propagation

The parent colony of this coral was initially collected in Jakarta, Indonesia, subsequently maintained in-house, and underwent quarantine and health inspection before propagation, making offspring frags available for aquarists. The corals can also propagate naturally by colony fragmentation.

Localization & Habitat

Originating from Jakarta, Indonesia, the Neon Green Starburst Polyp inhabits reefs where they encrust surfaces with their vibrant purple and green colonies. This species thrives in tropical marine environments characterized by stable parameters, including moderate alkalinity (8-12 dKH), pH (8.1-8.4), salinity (1.023-1.025), and temperature (22.2-25.6°C).
