Care DescriptionBubble Tip Anemones are some of the most popular anemones in the reef aquarium hobby due in large part to their appearance but also because these anemones serve as hosts to a large number of clownfish. They are also capable of moving around the aquarium and often do not settle on a single location. It is for this reason that any exposed pumps and drains should be protected to prevent one of these anemones from getting sucked in. Please see below for more care tips for bubble tips.

General Description

Bubble Tip Anemones, belonging to the family of Bubble tip anemone, are highly sought after in the reef aquarium community for their striking appearance and their ability to host clownfish. These anemones are known to move around the tank and do not typically settle in one place, making it important to protect pumps and drains from potential harm. The Colorado Sunburst Bubble Tip Anemone, a specific variety, is particularly renowned for its unique and vibrant colors.

Demands and Hardiness

Bubble Tip Anemones require a tank setup that prevents them from being sucked into pumps or drains due to their mobile nature. Adequate precautions such as protecting open pumps and using sponge filters are crucial to maintain the well-being of these anemones. They prefer moderate to strong water flow to thrive effectively.

Lighting

Bubble Tip Anemones exhibit versatility in their lighting needs, thriving in various lighting conditions ranging from low power fluorescents to high-intensity 400W metal halide bulbs. Anemones under stronger lighting tend to display more vivid coloration, although these organisms have the instinct to move towards preferred light conditions within the tank.

Water Flow

Moderate to strong water movement is recommended for Bubble Tip Anemones. However, due to their propensity to move rapidly around the tank, precautions should be taken to avoid potential harm to the anemones, such as using protective measures around pumps and drains to prevent entanglement or damage.

Feeding

Bubble Tip Anemones are carnivorous, consuming Mysis, Krill, small fish, and various meaty foods like shrimp, fish, and squid. Regular feeding with suitable pellets and feeds ranging from 5mm to 100mm in size is recommended, with favorite foods such as silversides offered every 3-4 days to ensure proper nutrition.

Propagation

These anemones have shown successful propagation through methods like longitudinal fission, where they split in half autonomously. While propagation techniques may vary between individuals, some aquarists induce fission through environmental stressors such as changes in salinity or water temperature, while others observe natural splitting without intervention.

Localization & Habitat

Bubble Tip Anemones are native to the Pacific region and can be found in areas spanning from Indonesia to Australia. Their natural habitat consists of shallow reef environments where they attach to substrates and display their characteristic symbiotic relationship with clownfish.
