Care DescriptionBubble Tip Anemones are some of the most popular anemones in the reef aquarium hobby due in large part to their appearance but also because these anemones serve as hosts to a large number of clownfish. They are also capable of moving around the aquarium and often do not settle on a single location. It is for this reason that any exposed pumps and drains should be protected to prevent one of these anemones from getting sucked in. Please see below for more care tips for bubble tips.

General Description

Bubble Tip Anemones, particularly the Nexus Burst Bubble Tip Anemone, are highly sought-after due to their vibrant colors and their ability to host clownfish in reef aquariums. They are known to move around the tank and should be protected from getting sucked into pumps or drains.

Demands and Hardiness (Setup)

Bubble Tip Anemones require a moderate to strong water flow, but precautions need to be taken as they tend to move around the tank and may get caught in equipment. It is recommended to use sponge filters to prevent damage or injury to the anemones.

Lighting

Bubble Tip Anemones can thrive in a range of lighting conditions, from low power fluorescents to 400W metal halide bulbs. Stronger lighting may enhance their coloration, but since they can move to preferred locations, the precise placement of lighting may be less critical compared to sessile corals.

Water Flow

Moderate to strong water movement is ideal for Bubble Tip Anemones. However, caution must be taken as these anemones are prone to moving around the tank and can get caught in overflows and exposed pumps. Protecting them from such situations is crucial for their well-being.

Feeding

Bubble Tip Anemones can be fed a variety of frozen fish foods, such as Mysis, Krill, and small fish. They also enjoy meaty foods like shrimp, fish, and squid, with silversides being a favorite meal given once every 3-4 days.

Propagation

Bubble Tip Anemones can propagate on their own through longitudinal fission, where they split in half. Introducing stressors like changes in salinity or water temperature may induce this behavior. Some anemones also split spontaneously without external intervention.

Localization & Habitat

Bubble Tip Anemones are native to the Pacific regions, particularly found in Indonesia and Australia. Their natural habitat consists of reef environments where they can attach themselves and move around to optimize their living conditions.
