  • General Description: Leptastrea, a member of the Faviidae family, is considered an LPS coral despite its small polyp size. These corals typically grow in dome shapes and display a variety of color morphs, with a green base, green polyps, and a purple growth rim being a common variant seen in some species like the Bruce Banner Leptastrea. They are known to appear very bright under actinic lighting.

  • Demands and Hardiness: Leptastrea corals require moderate to high lighting, although they can adapt to various light intensities without significant impact on their coloration. Thriving in water temperatures ranging from 22.2 to 25.6 degrees Celsius, these corals prefer a stable environment with alkalinity levels between 8-12 dKH, pH levels of 8.1-8.4, and a salinity range of 1.023-1.026.

  • Lighting: Leptastrea corals thrive under moderate to high lighting conditions. While they prefer bright lighting, their coloration remains relatively stable regardless of the light intensity provided, though some variation may be expected.

  • Water Flow: Leptastrea corals thrive in environments with moderate to strong water flow. They are commonly found in high flow areas of the reef, indicating a preference for water movement.

  • Feeding: Leptastrea primarily relies on the products of their zooxanthellae for nutrition. Supplementing their diet with liquid and powdery foods containing Phytoplankton and Zooplankton particles ranging from 20um to 1mm can be beneficial.

  • Propagation: Leptastrea corals can be successfully fragmented for propagation purposes, but they tend to have a long recovery time post-fragmentation.

  • Localization & Habitat: Leptastrea corals are predominantly found in Australia, including regions like the Great Barrier Reef. They are often situated in high flow areas of the reef, indicating their preference for such habitats.
