Care Description | Leptoseris are commonly known as a wrinkle coral but almost no one in the hobby refers to this coral by its common name. Leptoseris were made popular a few years ago when bright orange color morphs came onto the scene and blew everyone away with their intense fluorescence. They are one of the most dazzling corals under actinic lighting because in addition to their bright coloration, they almost take on a metallic appearance. Please see below for additional care tips for Leptoseris. |

General Description
Leptoseris, commonly known as wrinkle coral, became popular for its intense fluorescence, particularly with bright orange color morphs that have a metallic appearance under actinic lighting. One notable variant is the Neon Green Spartan Leptoseris.
Demands and Hardiness
Leptoseris are challenging to feed due to their small mouths, requiring liquid and powdery foods like Phytoplankton and Zooplankton. They thrive in low lighting environments, adapting their colors accordingly. They are best placed in low to medium water flow areas to prevent stress and encourage full extension.
Lighting
Leptoseris do well in shady areas of the reef, often found under overhangs and lower reef slopes. While adaptable to different lighting systems, they exhibit vibrant fluorescence under actinic lighting, especially LED, making them a stunning addition to a reef tank.
Water Flow
Maintaining low to moderate water flow is recommended for Leptoseris. Excessive flow can stress the coral and inhibit full extension, while lower flow provides better feeding opportunities for this species.
Feeding
Feeding Leptoseris can be challenging due to their small mouths, making liquid and powdery foods necessary. Despite attempts being largely unsuccessful in feeding this coral, providing suitable small particles such as Phytoplankton and Zooplankton is crucial for their nutrition.
Propagation
Leptoseris is well-suited for aquaculture due to its quick healing from cutting and productive growth pattern. This genus offers high productivity and is a good candidate for propagation efforts.
Localization & Habitat
Leptoseris is commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in areas like Indonesia and the Great Barrier Reef. Their natural habitat includes lower reef slopes and shaded regions, showcasing their adaptability to different environmental conditions.
