General Description
Montipora palawanensis is a distinctive SPS coral known for its varied shapes and vibrant neon green coloration. It is a popular choice for both SPS-dominated aquariums and mixed reef tanks due to its visually striking appearance.
Demands and Hardiness
Montipora corals can be sensitive to fluctuations in tank parameters and have high demands for both intense lighting and strong water flow to thrive at their best. They are recommended to be placed in setups with medium to high lighting and moderate to strong water movement for optimal health and coloration.
Lighting
These corals thrive under high-intensity lighting conditions. Utilizing Metal Halide lighting, high output fluorescent bulbs, or LEDs is recommended to maintain vibrant colors and overall health. Inadequate lighting can lead to color fading, and like other SPS corals, Montipora may exhibit color changes when moved between different lighting systems.
Water Flow
Montipora palawanensis thrives in aquariums with moderate to high water movement. High water flow not only helps in sweeping away detritus from the coral surface but also aids in delivering essential nutrients to their polyps, contributing to their overall well-being.
