General Description
Montipora corals are known for their diversity, displaying a wide range of shapes and colors, making them popular choices for SPS-dominated aquariums and mixed reef tanks. The Slow Burn Montipora, in particular, features a reddish-orange base with unique semi-opaque polyps that emit a blue glow under actinic lighting.
Demands and Hardiness
Montipora corals are sensitive to fluctuations in tank parameters and require high flow and intense lighting for optimal health and vibrant coloration. They thrive in setups with high water movement, necessitating moderate to strong water flow to remove detritus and supply essential nutrients to their polyps.
Lighting
For Montipora corals, high-intensity lighting is essential for achieving the best coloration and overall well-being. Metal halide lighting, a bank of high-output fluorescent bulbs, or LEDs are recommended to maintain vibrant colors. Without adequate lighting, Montipora may experience color fading, similar to other SPS corals like Acropora.
Water Flow
Montipora corals benefit from moderate to high water movement within the aquarium. High water flow is crucial for keeping these corals healthy by sweeping away detritus and delivering vital nutrients to their polyps.
