| Care Description | Nephthea tree corals are one of the most highly sought-after leather corals because of their beautiful neon green coloration. At one time these corals were nearly extinct but propagation efforts brought them back from the brink and now they are a fixture in the reef hobby today. They are very similar to Sinularia and are sometimes difficult to distinguish. Please see below for additional care tips for Nephthea. |

General Description
Nephthea tree corals, highly coveted in the reef hobby for their stunning neon green coloration, were once on the brink of extinction but have been successfully revived through propagation efforts. Resembling Sinularia closely, these corals boast a vibrant appearance and are a popular choice among marine enthusiasts.
Demands and Hardiness
Nephthea corals, including the rare Koji Wada Pink Nephthea variant, require liquid and powdery foods like Phytoplankton and Zooplankton for sustenance. These corals heavily rely on their zooxanthellae for nutrition but may also feed on similarly sized microfauna present in the water column. While they can adapt to different lighting conditions, moderate lighting is preferred for optimal extension and health.
Lighting
Moderate lighting is ideal for Nephthea corals, as it promotes better extension compared to intense lighting. The Koji Wada Pink Nephthea, especially, displays its crisp pink coloration most vividly under 10K lighting, adding to its allure.
Water Flow
Nephthea corals thrive in strong water movement, as it encourages them to shed a waxy film periodically, preventing nuisance algae growth. This shedding process, during which the polyps retract and then re-extend after the film is shed, is believed to be a natural mechanism employed by Nephthea for maintaining health and vitality.
Feeding
Nephthea corals predominantly feed on Phytoplankton and Zooplankton in the water, with liquid and powdery foods being suitable for their dietary needs. Ensuring a steady supply of these small particles is crucial for the well-being of these corals.
