Care DescriptionYellow Polyps are are a close relative of Zoanthus and Palythoa from the Genus Parazoanthus. There are several species of Parazoanthus in the wild, but the most commonly seen species in the reef aquarium hobby are the bright yellow Parazoanthus gracilis. Yellow Polyps are fairly easy to keep. They tolerate a wide range of lighting intensities and water conditions. Once settled in, they multiply quickly. General Description

Yellow Parazoanthus Polyps are a vibrant addition to reef aquariums, closely related to Zoanthus and Palythoa from the Genus Parazoanthus. The most commonly seen species in the hobby is Parazoanthus gracilis, known for its bright yellow color. These polyps are known for their powerful sting and should be kept away from other corals. They are beginner-friendly and reproduce rapidly once settled in an aquarium.

Demands and Hardiness (Setup)

Yellow Polyps are relatively easy to care for, tolerating a wide range of lighting intensities and water conditions. They can thrive in setups with low to high lighting and prefer moderate to strong water flow to prevent detritus accumulation. Moderate to High water movement is recommended to keep the polyps clean and healthy.

Lighting

Yellow Polyps are not demanding when it comes to lighting. They can thrive under various lighting types, tolerating both low and high light conditions. Their color and size can significantly change based on light intensity, with mustard yellow coloring and larger polyps in low light (50 PAR and below), and canary yellow coloration and smaller polyps in higher light (over 150 PAR).

Water Flow

Moderate to High water movement is beneficial for Yellow Polyps. They require enough flow to prevent detritus from settling on their surface, ensuring they can effectively capture prey and maintain their health and vibrancy.

Feeding

Yellow Parazoanthus Polyps primarily feed on the smallest particles of Phytoplankton and Zooplankton (20um-1mm). While they obtain energy from zooxanthellae, they can capture prey. These corals are proficient in prey capture, with tentacles that efficiently grab food from the water column. They can intake various food types, including dry and frozen foods up to the size of a mysis shrimp.

Propagation

Yellow Polyps have been successfully propagated in captivity and are suitable for aquaculture. With extensive propagation efforts, it is possible to achieve sustainable harvesting of these colorful polyps.

Localization & Habitat

Yellow Parazoanthus Polyps are mainly harvested from the islands of the Indo-Pacific region, including Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Their bright yellow coloration makes them a sought-after addition to reef aquariums, adding a splash of vibrant color to the underwater ecosystem.
