| Care Description | Flower anemones (sometimes referred to as Rock anemones) are a very hardy and colorful variety of anemone. They are easy to feed and do not move as much as some of the other types available in the hobby. They do not host clownfish as most are Caribbean in origin. General Description
Flower anemones, also known as Rock anemones, are a striking and robust type of anemone that adds vibrancy to reef tanks, particularly Caribbean biotopes. They boast red tentacles with centers ranging from greenish to bluish hues or solid red, with some exhibiting alternating white tentacles that create a pinwheel effect. These anemones typically have a diameter of 1-2 inches, showcasing unique colors and patterns that make them a captivating addition to any tank.
Demands and Hardiness
Flower anemones are considered hardy and low maintenance compared to other anemone varieties in the hobby. They are easy to feed and tend to have less movement, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. These anemones do not host clownfish, predominantly originating from the Caribbean region, with the exception of the Pacific Green Flower Anemone.
Lighting
These anemones thrive under a wide range of lighting conditions, but generally do well under low to moderate lighting. It is essential to monitor their positioning as they have the tendency to relocate to areas with lighting that suits them better, potentially disrupting the aesthetic arrangement of the reef tank.
Water Flow

Feeding
Flower anemones are known to consume various types of food, including Mysis, krill, small fish, and medium to large-sized pellets. Offer a mix of meaty foods such as shrimp, fish, and squid with vitamin supplements and highly unsaturated fatty acids for a balanced diet. It is crucial to feed them appropriately sized food that they can fully ingest, as they typically remain relatively small, rarely exceeding 5 inches in diameter.
Propagation
Propagation of flower anemones within this genus has been successfully achieved, allowing aquarists to propagate and introduce new specimens into their tanks. This process ensures a sustainable population of these colorful anemones in captive environments.
Localization & Habitat
Flower anemones are predominantly found in the Caribbean region, lending themselves well to Caribbean-themed reef setups. However, the Pacific Green Flower Anemone represents a notable exception to this pattern, showcasing the diversity within this captivating genus.
