General Description: Psammocora is a small polyp stony coral with a velvet appearance from afar, showcasing individual polyps up close. Fast-growing and adaptable to various tank conditions, it is an underappreciated gem in coral collections.

Demands and Hardiness: Psammocora exhibits tolerance to a wide range of tank conditions, making it a relatively low-maintenance coral species suitable for both beginner and experienced reef keepers. It is fast-growing and resilient, thriving in stable environments.

Lighting: While Psammocora thrives in well-lit environments, they can adapt to different lighting conditions with minimal impact on their coloration and growth rates. Initially, it is advisable to acclimate them to low to moderate lighting to prevent light shock.

Water Flow: Psammocora benefits from moderate to strong water movement in the aquarium, particularly appreciating high flow conditions akin to other Small Polyp Stony (SPS) corals. This aids in nutrient uptake and overall health.

Feeding: Psammocora primarily feed on the smallest of prey, such as Phytoplankton and Zooplankton, necessitating liquid or powdery foods for proper nutrition. Occasional supplements like rotifers or phytoplankton dustings can aid in their health and vibrancy.

Propagation: With extensive propagation success in captivity, Psammocora is a prime candidate for aquaculture efforts. Sustainable harvesting practices hold promise for the future, contributing to coral conservation and availability in the hobby.

Localization & Habitat: Psammocora are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, including areas around islands such as Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Their wide distribution underscores their adaptability to diverse reef ecosystems.
