Care Description | Bird’s Nest Corals are some of the fastest growing SPS corals. They benefit from strong flow however their lighting requirements vary from colony to colony. In our experience, the pink varieties enjoy higher lighting conditions than the others. The yellow bird’s nest actually prefers subdued lighting. Once settled in, these corals take on incredible colors and can be propagated sustainably. Please see below for additional care tips for Seriatopora Bird’s Nest Corals. |

General Description
The Pink Bird's Nest Seriatopora, a member of the Seriatopora family, is known for its vibrant magenta polyps and impressive coloration once settled. This SPS coral is fast-growing and can display varying appearances based on lighting and flow conditions.
Demands and Hardiness (Setup)
Bird's Nest Corals benefit from strong water flow, with larger colonies requiring increased flow to reach the central polyps. Lighting preferences vary among different varieties, with pink bird's nest thriving in higher lighting and yellow bird's nest preferring subdued lighting. These corals are hardy and tolerant of fluctuations in flow and light intensity.
Lighting
While Seriatopora corals can adapt to a wide range of lighting conditions, their appearance is heavily influenced by the spectrum and intensity of light. Higher lighting can result in a lighter appearance, with the desirability of aesthetics being subjective to personal preference.
Water Flow
Strong water movement is essential for Bird's Nest Corals, with increasing flow requirements as the coral grows larger. Adequate flow is necessary to ensure the polyps at the center of the colony receive sufficient nutrients and maintain health.
Feeding
Seriatopora corals primarily rely on the products of their zooxanthellae for nutrition. They may also feed on phytoplankton and similarly sized microfauna in the water column. Suitable foods include liquid and powdery options containing Phytoplankton and Zooplankton particles ranging from 20um to 1mm.
Propagation
Seriatopora corals have been successfully propagated in captivity, making them ideal candidates for aquaculture. Fragments can be easily reglued to form new colonies, contributing to sustainable harvesting practices. While brittle and prone to breakage during shipping, these corals can regenerate from broken pieces.
Localization & Habitat
The Pink Bird's Nest Seriatopora is commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, including islands such as Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. These corals thrive in warm waters with specific parameters: a pH range of 8.1-8.4, a temperature range of 22.2-25.6°C, a salinity range of 1.023-1.026, and a carbonate hardness (KH) of 8-12.
