General Description

The Red Sea Pom Pom Xenia Coral, also known as Pumping Xenia Coral, Pulse Coral, or Waving Hand Corals, is a colonial species composed of multiple individual polyps attached to a solid substrate. These corals form stalks as they grow and reproduce. The eight-tentacled polyps of the coral can pump or pulse, a behavior that involves slowly opening and closing, possibly to expel gases and waste. While the reason behind this pulsing behavior is not fully understood, it is believed to be influenced by various water, lighting, and nutrient factors. Not pulsing does not necessarily indicate poor health in these corals.

Demands and Hardiness

Aquacultured Xenia corals are hardier than their wild-caught counterparts and have a tendency to reproduce rapidly. To ensure their well-being, provide ample space between Xenia and other sessile animals, especially other soft corals. These corals thrive under low to moderate light levels and require medium to strong water movement within the aquarium. Regular supplementation of iodine and other trace elements is crucial for their continued health.

Aquacultured Xenia corals have a propensity for rapid reproduction. The parent colony of these coral frags undergoes a thorough health inspection after being acquired from aquariums, ensuring the propagation of healthy specimens.

Localization & Habitat

Red Sea Pom Pom Xenia Corals are native to the Red Sea region, where they can be found in shallow reef environments. Thriving in warm tropical waters, these corals prefer stable water conditions with moderate alkalinity (8-12 dKH), slightly alkaline pH levels (8.1-8.4), specific gravity of 1.023-1.025, and temperatures ranging between 22.2-25.6°C (72-78°F).
