Behaviour:

Akysis Longifilis is not particularly competitive and should not be housed with larger or more aggressive fish. Suitable tankmates include miniature schooling cyprinids like Boraras, Microdevario, or smaller Danio/Rasbora species, along with similarly-sized characins and livebearers. It is non-aggressive towards conspecifics and can be kept singly or in a group as preferred. When considering other tank inhabitants, proper research is essential, as some species can be excessively aggressive or grow too large. Interestingly, Akysis Longifilis has been known to coexist peacefully with freshwater shrimp.

Feeding and Diet:

Primarily nocturnal micropredators, Akysis species feed on small aquatic crustaceans, worms, insect larvae, and zooplankton. They may be picky eaters initially, preferring live or frozen foods like Artemia, Daphnia, bloodworms, or glassworms. Although they may not readily accept dried foods, some specimens will learn to consume them over time.

Reproduction & Dimorphism:

Reproduction of Akysis Longifilis remains largely unreported. However, successful spawning events have been observed in related Akysis species. Sexual dimorphism has been noted in some Akysis species, with differences in anatomical features such as the location of the anus and genital papilla between males and females.

Habitat and Distribution:

Akysis Longifilis, a member of the Akysidae family, inhabits swiftly-flowing streams and rivers with substrates of sand, gravel, and rocks. Transparent to slightly turbid waters characterize their natural environment, with the absence of aquatic plants. This species originated in the Pyu stream, a tributary of the Sittaung River system in southern Myanmar. While additional localities are less known, its presence in the aquarium trade suggests a potentially wider distribution within the Sittaung drainage.
