General Description
Parambassis siamensis, commonly known as Siamese glassfish, is a freshwater fish species occasionally mislabeled as P. ranga. It can be distinguished by its lack of patterning behind the eye and a more elongate body compared to P. ranga. It reaches a maximum size of 6.0cm and is known for its peaceful nature.

Aquarium Setup
To ensure the well-being of Siamese glassfish, a minimum tank size of 40 litres is recommended. Dark substrate is ideal as it helps reduce the fish's nervousness and enhances its coloration. Providing dense planting, floating vegetation, rocks, and driftwood in the tank creates a suitable environment for this species. Siamese glassfish thrive in freshwater conditions with a pH range of 6.5-7.5, hardness of 8-15°dH, and a temperature between 22-27°C (see table).

Behaviour
Siamese glassfish are peaceful and shy, preferring the company of their own kind in shoals of at least 6 individuals. They are best kept with non-aggressive species like barbs, livebearers, smaller rainbowfish, and loaches. While males may exhibit territorial behavior during spawning, physical harm is rare among them.

Feeding and Diet
This species has a relatively unfussy diet, readily accepting a variety of live, frozen, and dried foods. Providing a balanced diet is essential for the overall health and vitality of Siamese glassfish.

Reproduction & Dimorphism
Parambassis siamensis has not been successfully bred in captivity, but the breeding process is presumed to be similar to that of P. ranga. Sexual dimorphism is not well-documented, though females may appear fuller in the belly when in breeding condition.

Habitat and Distribution
Siamese glassfish are native to lowland rivers and flooded fields in countries such as Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia. Their distribution is primarily limited to freshwater habitats.
