General Description:

The Day's Mystus (Mystus Bleekeri) is a peaceful and gregarious species that resembles the M. vittatus but can be distinguished by its larger adult size and much longer adipose fin. They are ideal bottom-dwellers for larger communities of peaceful fish and are considered somewhat underrated in the hobby.

Aquarium Setup:

The ideal tank setup for the Day's Mystus includes neutral water conditions with a pH range of 5.8-8.0 and a temperature between 18-26°C. A minimum tank size of 110 litres is recommended, with the addition of hiding places and floating plants to provide cover and reduce light reaching the substrate.

Behaviour:

Day's Mystus are known to be peaceful but may prey on small fish as adults. They thrive in small groups, showing more outgoing behavior in the presence of conspecifics. They make good companions for larger, peaceful fish in community tanks.

Feeding and Diet:

Day's Mystus are unfussy eaters, accepting a variety of live, frozen, and dried foods. A varied diet is essential to keep them healthy and display their vibrant colors, making them easy to care for in aquarium settings.

Reproduction & Dimorphism:

Achieving reproduction in aquaria is not common for Day's Mystus. Males can be distinguished by possessing a small genital papilla located just ahead of the anal fin, resembling a single fin ray.

Habitat and Distribution:

In their natural habitat, Day's Mystus can be found in lakes, rivers, and other waterways across India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Indonesia. They adapt well to various water conditions and are tolerant of a wide range of habitats.
