General Description: The Tucanfish, scientifically known as Chalceus Erythrurus, is a species that can be discerned from its relative by its red or yellow caudal fin and yellow pectoral and pelvic fins. With potential for yellow body coloration, it is found frequently in the trade market and abundantly in its natural habitat.

Aquarium Setup: A minimum tank size of 240 litres is recommended for this species. It thrives best either as a lone fish or in groups exceeding 6, as smaller groups may lead to intra-group conflicts. Suitable tankmates include similarly-sized characins, large loricariids, pimelodiids, and cichlids. Avoid housing with other surface-dwelling species unless in a spacious tank. Ample swimming space is vital, with a preference for a sandy substrate, beech branches, and floating plants to mirror its natural environment. Due to its jumping tendency, a secure tank lid is essential.

Behaviour: Tucanfish exhibit improved behavior in solitary or larger groups, while smaller groups may display aggression towards each other. They are compatible with many large community fish but should not be housed with small surface-dwelling species unless in a sizable aquarium.

Feeding and Diet: In its natural habitat, the Tucanfish primarily feeds on insects and aquatic crustaceans. While it accepts dried foods, its diet should include a significant portion of meaty foods such as prawns, mussels, bloodworms, and chopped earthworms for optimal nutrition.

Reproduction & Dimorphism: Reproduction of the Tucanfish has not been observed in captivity. It is speculated to spawn similarly to its relative, C. macrolepidotus. Sexual dimorphism of this species remains unknown.

Habitat and Distribution: This species is native to parts of the Amazon basin in Peru and Brazil, particularly inhabiting the surface waters of floodplain rivers and lakes.
