General Description
The Cutter's Cichlid, scientifically known as Cryptoheros cutteri, is a freshwater fish characterized by its iridescent yellow body adorned with black vertical stripes of varying intensity. With a maximum length reaching 5 inches, this species belongs to the Cichlidae family and displays a semi-aggressive temperament, requiring caregivers with prior experience in handling similar fish.
Aquarium Setup
To cater to the needs of Cutter's Cichlid, a freshwater tank of 30 gallons or more is recommended, with water temperatures maintained between 75°F to 80°F and pH levels ranging from 7.0 to 7.5. It is crucial to provide ample swimming space and numerous hiding spots within the tank to help alleviate potential aggression. For specific water conditions, a hardness of 2-3 kh is suitable for this species.
Behaviour
Being semi-aggressive in nature, Cutter's Cichlid may exhibit aggressive behavior towards smaller tankmates, making it essential to house them with larger fish of a similar temperament. In their natural habitat of freshwater subtropical waters, these cichlids are known to establish territories at the bottom of the sea floor.
Feeding and Diet
