General Description
The African Blackfin Barb, scientifically known as Barbus Guirali, is a rare and stylish barb species often found in the hobby. The genus Barbus it belongs to is quite diverse, with around 340 putative species, but generally comprises species from Europe, Southwest Asia, and North Africa.

Aquarium Setup
The African Blackfin Barb thrives in a tank of at least 300 liters, favoring clean, well-oxygenated water with a pH range of 5.5-6.5 and a temperature of 22-26°C. It displays its best colors in well-lit tanks with dark substrates, decorated with smooth rocks, twisted roots, and live plants.

Behaviour
An ideal addition to peaceful community tanks, this species is best kept in groups of 8-10 specimens to reduce skittishness and enhance natural behavior display. Maintaining them in numbers helps contain aggressive behavior as they establish hierarchy within the group.

Feeding and Diet
The African Blackfin Barb is an unfussy eater and eagerly accepts various foods such as bloodworms, Daphnia, Artemia, high-quality flakes, and granules. Regular feeding with live and frozen foods enhances its condition and coloration.

Reproduction & Dimorphism
Information regarding reproduction in captivity is scarce, but when available in sufficient numbers, this species would make an excellent breeding project. Males are typically more intensely colored, slimmer, and slightly smaller than females.

Habitat and Distribution
Found in Cameroon and Gabon, this species primarily inhabits rivers but can also venture into affluent streams and tributaries. In Cameroon, it is mostly concentrated in the south and west, while in Gabon, it occurs in the Ogooué River basin and its tributaries.
