Behaviour:

This species, known as the Mosquito Rasbora, is incredibly peaceful but may not thrive in a community tank due to its small size and timid demeanor. It is best kept either alone or with other small species like Microdevario, Sundadanio, Danionella, and pygmy Corydoras, among others. These Rasboras are schooling fish and do best in groups of 8-10 individuals, displaying their best colors and unique behaviors when competing for female attention within the group.

Feeding and Diet:

The Mosquito Rasbora is likely a micropredator in the wild, feeding on small insects, worms, crustaceans, and zooplankton. In an aquarium, it accepts small live and frozen foods like Daphnia and Artemia, along with quality flakes and granules. A varied diet will enhance their coloration and bring them into breeding condition, ensuring their overall health and vitality.

Reproduction & Dimorphism:

These Rasboras are egg-scattering spawners with no parental care. To support breeding, they require a well-conditioned environment with suitable water parameters and hiding locations for the eggs. Mature females tend to be rounder and larger than males, while males exhibit more vibrant colors, particularly when vying for female attention during breeding rituals.

Habitat and Distribution:

The Mosquito Rasbora is native to southwestern Borneo, primarily found in blackwater streams and pools near ancient forest peat swamps. These habitats are characterized by soft, acidic water with low lighting and abundant organic matter. Unfortunately, their environment is increasingly threatened by human activities like deforestation and agriculture, jeopardizing their natural existence.
