Behaviour:

The Celestial Pearl 'Danio' is known to be easily intimidated or outcompeted for food by larger or more boisterous tankmates, although its shyness can be reduced in the presence of similarly-sized, surface-dwelling species. Male Celestial Pearl 'Danios' are seen sparring regularly during daylight hours within a group, showcasing a shoaling nature. It is recommended to keep a sizable group of 20 or more to spread aggression between individuals and bring out bolder behaviors and better coloration.

Feeding and Diet:

In its natural habitat, the Celestial Pearl 'Danio' likely feeds on small invertebrates, algae, and zooplankton. In an aquarium setting, ensure a varied diet including dried foods of a suitable size supplemented with small live and frozen fare like Daphnia and Artemia. Feeding primarily small live foods, especially to newly-imported specimens, helps maintain optimal coloration and health.

Reproduction & Dimorphism:

The Celestial Pearl 'Danio' is an egg-scattering spawner showing no parental care. When conditioned well, they spawn often, with optimal conditions leading to fry appearing without intervention. To maximize fry yield, setting up separate breeding containers with fine wool mops or Taxiphyllum is advisable. Males exhibit a deeper blue body coloration with intense red and black striping in the fins, while females have a blue-green base coloration and cream to golden body spots.

Habitat and Distribution:

This species originates from the pools at the foot of a mountain near Hopong town in Myanmar, at an elevation of around 1040 meters. Found in areas associated with the Salween River in Shan State, Myanmar, and even extending into northern Thailand, the Celestial Pearl 'Danio' thrives in warm, shallow waters rich in aquatic plant life.

Aquarium Setup:

For an ideal aquarium setup for Celestial Pearl 'Danios,' opt for a heavily-planted tank with a dark substrate and gentle filtration. Creating broken lines of sight with plants can help reduce skittishness and allow the fish to exhibit natural behaviors. While floating plants are beneficial, it's advisable to avoid driftwood and tannin-releasing leaf litter to mimic its natural habitat.

Ensure water conditions within the range of 90-268ppm hardness, pH of 6.5-7.5, and a temperature between 20-26°C for the optimal health and comfort of the Celestial Pearl 'Danio'.
