General Description:
Danionella translucida is a species of freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family, characterized by its diminutive size, reaching only up to 1.1cm. This species is commonly known as the "micro glassfish" in the ornamental trade due to its translucent color pattern and unique anatomical features resulting from miniaturization.

Aquarium Setup:
For optimal maintenance, Danionella translucida should be kept in a planted aquarium with gentle water movement, along with a layer of vegetation covering part of the surface. A matured air-powered sponge-type filter unit is recommended, with water conditions set at a pH of 6.0-8.0, hardness of 18-143ppm, and a temperature range of 18-24°C (see table).

Behaviour:
Being a schooling species by nature, it is advised to keep Danionella translucida in groups of no less than a dozen. If considering a community tank, it is best to choose small fishes that require similar conditions such as Celestichthys, Boraras, or Microdevario species. Due to their miniature size and breeding habits, it is recommended to keep them alone unless breeding is a priority.

Feeding and Diet:
Danionella translucida is quite easily fed with a variety of food options including crushed or very fine-grade dried foods, chopped Tubifex, Artemia nauplii, microworm, and sifted Daphnia. It is essential to offer a varied diet to ensure the fish's optimal health status.

Reproduction & Dimorphism:
Successful breeding of Danionella translucida has been achieved in dedicated set-ups planted with mature Java moss. The species deposits eggs in cone-shaped masses on the substrate, with fry being raised on a diet of Paramecium and green water before transitioning to Artemia nauplii and microworms. Females exhibit noticeable changes when gravid, with visible eggs within the body cavity.

Habitat and Distribution:
This species is native to streams draining the south and eastern slopes of the Bago Yoma mountain range in northwestern Myanmar. Danionella translucida inhabits wide, low altitude streams with turbid water, sandy or muddy substrates, where it can be found among roots of floating vegetation alongside other small cyprinids and sisorid catfishes.
