General Description
Desmopuntius Endecanalis, a member of the Cyprinidae family, is a small fish species distinguished by its whitish base body color and possession of 8 branched anal-fin rays. Formerly classified in the genus Puntius, it was moved to the Desmopuntius genus due to taxonomic revisions. The fish showcases a unique bar pattern on its body as a characteristic feature.

Aquarium Setup
For optimal care, it is recommended to maintain Desmopuntius Endecanalis in a tank with dense plant cover, soft substrate, roots, branches, and leaf litter. Water conditions should mimic a forest stream with low to moderate lighting. Aquatic plants like Microsorum and Cryptocoryne are suitable additions, with filtration in sluggish waters being sufficient.

Behaviour
Desmopuntius Endecanalis thrives in peaceful community setups with compatible species like similarly sized cyprinids, loaches, and anabantoids. They are schooling fish and are best kept in groups of 8-10 individuals to reduce skittish behavior and enhance coloration in males during competition for mating.

Feeding and Diet
In the wild, these micropredators feed on small insects, worms, crustaceans, and zooplankton. In captivity, they accept dried foods but should be supplemented with live or frozen fare like Daphnia and Artemia for optimal coloration and breeding condition.

Reproduction & Dimorphism
Details on the reproduction of Desmopuntius Endecanalis are unrecorded. Sexually mature females may appear slightly larger and rounder-bodied than males, especially when carrying eggs.

Habitat and Distribution
Endemic to the Kapuas River basin in Kalimantan Barat, Borneo, including the Danau Sentarum lake system, Desmopuntius Endecanalis is associated with peat swamps, blackwater streams, and still waters with submerged vegetation. They inhabit waters with low mineral content and acidic pH levels.

Etymology
The genus name "Desmopuntius" refers to the barred color pattern in the species, while "Endecanalis" signifies the characteristic number of anal-fin rays.
