General Description

Nematabramis steindachnerii is a species of fish classified under the order Cypriniformes. It can be identified by several distinguishing characteristics such as having barbels longer than the head but not extending beyond the pectoral-fin base, a relatively slender body with a depth that fits 3.6-4.2 times in standard length (SL), a relatively short head with a length that fits 4.6-4.8 times in SL, as well as 9-10 branched dorsal-fin rays and 16-17 branched anal-fin rays.

Habitat and Distribution

These fish are endemic to northern and central Borneo, specifically found in the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah, Brunei Darussalam, and the Indonesian provinces North Kalimantan (Kalimantan Utara) and East Kalimantan (Kalimantan Timur). The type locality for N. steindachnerii is the 'Kajan River, eastern slope of central Kalimantan, Indonesia (Borneo)'.
