General Description
The Biota Court Jester Goby, also known as Rainford's Goby or Old Glory, boasts a brightly colored body with green and blue hues accented by horizontal orange stripes that run the length of its frame. Discovered in the Western Pacific in 1940 by Whitely, this timid and peaceful species is a delightful addition to both reef and fish-only aquariums.
Aquarium Suitability
The Biota Court Jester Goby thrives in aquariums of 10 gallons or larger, ideally well-established with live rock and sand for grazing. While peaceful, it's recommended to house only one Court Jester Goby unless the tank is sufficiently spacious with numerous hiding spots. These captive-bred gobies are hardier than their wild counterparts, making them suitable for beginner and experienced aquarists alike.
Demands, Care, and Hardiness
Considered to have moderate care requirements, the Court Jester Goby is more accustomed to the conditions present in home aquariums due to its captive breeding. It's essential to provide a diet that comprises filamentous algae and small crustaceans such as live and frozen brine shrimp and mysis shrimp for optimal health.
Reef Suitability
Reef-compatible, the Biota Court Jester Goby can peacefully coexist in reef aquariums, adding a splash of color and tranquility to the underwater landscape.
Aquarium Setup
For the optimal setup of a Biota Court Jester Goby aquarium, ensure a tank size of at least 37 liters, maintain water parameters within a pH range of 8.1-8.4, a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025, and a carbonate hardness between 8-12 dKH.
Behaviour
Known for its peaceful temperament, the Court Jester Goby seldom exhibits aggression towards other species, making it a harmonious tankmate in community aquariums.
Feeding and Diet
As an omnivorous species, the Court Jester Goby thrives on a diet comprising filamentous algae, live and frozen brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp, ensuring a well-rounded nutritional intake.
