General Description
Schistura aurantiaca, a member of the Nemacheilidae family within the Cypriniformes order, is a small loach distinguished by its unique color pattern composed of vertical orange bars on each flank. This species, part of the Schistura genus, may not be commonly found in the aquarium trade but is identified by its distinctive features, including moderate mouth arch, and tail shape.
Aquarium Setup
To successfully maintain Schistura aurantiaca in captivity, it is recommended to recreate conditions resembling a flowing stream environment in a tank of at least 90 liters. The setup should include a substrate of rocks, sand, gravel, and boulders, along with driftwood branches for hiding spots. Hardy aquatic plants like Microsorum or Anubias can be added for decoration. Regular water changes of 30-50% tank volume are essential to ensure water quality.
