General Description
Serrasalmus Sanchezi, commonly known as Sanchez's Piranha, is a carnivorous species belonging to the Serrasalminae subfamily of the Characidae family. It can reach a maximum size of 11.4 cm and is native to Peru, specifically found in rivers like Rio Ucayali, Rio Itayi, and Rio Pacaya.

Aquarium Setup
S. Sanchezi thrives in a planted aquarium setup with ample shaded areas and natural decorations like roots, branches, and floating vegetation. A dark substrate and moderate water flow are recommended alongside high water quality. An external canister filter or sump, along with regular partial water changes, is essential. External placement of the heater is advised due to the species' tendency to attack internal equipment.

Behaviour
Primarily considered a specimen fish due to its carnivorous nature, S. Sanchezi may not coexist well with other species in a tank. While some enthusiasts debate the possibility of keeping them in groups, it is generally recommended to keep this species singly, especially considering the risk of injury in cohabitation experiments.

Feeding and Diet
In the wild, S. Sanchezi feeds on the fins of other species and smaller fish. They can be weaned onto dead foods in captivity, preferring live or frozen bloodworm, Tubifex, Artemia, chopped prawns as juveniles, and larger items like mussels and earthworms as adults. Caution is advised against feeding mammalian/avian meat or 'feeder' fish to prevent health issues.

Reproduction & Dimorphism
Reproduction of this species in aquarium settings is rare, and sexual dimorphism is unknown due to limited observations in captivity.

Habitat and Distribution
Preferring shady areas with dense vegetation in rivers, pools, and creeks, S. Sanchezi is endemic to Peru's river systems like Rio Ucayali, Rio Itayi, and Rio Pacaya.
