General Description
Kryptopterus Limpok, also known as Silurus limpok Bleeker, is a relatively unknown species in the ornamental trade. It can be distinguished from similar species by its exceptionally long mental barbel that extends beyond the tip of the pectoral fin. Belonging to the family Siluridae, this catfish hails from Southeast Asia and is part of the K. limpok group within the Kryptopterus genus.

Aquarium Setup
With a minimum tank size requirement of 860 liters, K. Limpok thrives in weakly-lit environments with sufficient cover to prevent skittish behavior. It is crucial to avoid introducing this species to biologically immature aquariums due to its sensitivity to fluctuations in water chemistry. The optimal water conditions range from a pH of 6.0-7.5, hardness of 36-268ppm, and a temperature between 20-28°C.

Behaviour
While generally peaceful, K. Limpok may prey on smaller fish and tends to be timid, making it incompatible with larger, more robust species. This gregarious catfish prefers forming schools, so acquiring four or more specimens is recommended. Compatible tankmates include peaceful, similar-sized cyprinids, loaches, and other catfish species.

Feeding and Diet
In its native habitat, K. Limpok likely feeds on small invertebrates and zooplankton. In an aquarium setting, it thrives on a diverse diet comprising sinking dried foods, live and frozen bloodworms, Tubifex, and occasional small earthworms.

Reproduction & Dimorphism
Information on the reproductive behavior and dimorphism of K. Limpok is scarce, reflecting its limited presence in the ornamental fish trade. Further research is needed to understand these aspects of its life cycle.

Habitat and Distribution
Native to flowing rivers and large streams with turbid water and suspended sediments, K. Limpok's type locality is Palembang, Sumatra, Indonesia. It is widely distributed across Southeast Asia, including river systems in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and Java. Recorded in various major rivers and smaller drainages, this species is adaptable to diverse aquatic environments.
