General Description

The Giant Brochis (Corydoras Britskii) is a peaceful and gregarious fish species belonging to the Callichthyidae family under the order Siluriformes. This species, formerly classified under the genus Brochis, possesses distinctive dorsal-fin ray counts that help set it apart from related species in the Corydoras genus.

Aquarium Setup

For optimal care of Giant Brochis, it is recommended to maintain them in groups of at least 6-8 individuals in a tank with a minimum capacity of 270 litres. The tank setup should include a substrate of fine sand or clean rounded gravel and provide adequate cover for the fish to feel secure. Water parameters should be maintained at a temperature of 20-26°C, pH range of 6.0-7.0, and hardness between 36-215ppm (see table).

Behaviour

Giant Brochis exhibit peaceful and social behavior, thriving when kept in groups. They prefer to form aggregations in smaller tributaries, still bodies of water, backwaters, oxbows, and marginal lakes.

Feeding and Diet

Feeding on a variety of sinking dried foods, small live, and frozen options such as chironomid larvae and Tubifex, Giant Brochis are foraging omnivores. A diverse diet ensures their optimum health, and they should not be solely relied upon to clean aquariums.

Reproduction & Dimorphism
