Behaviour
Corydoras Gomezi are peaceful and gregarious fish that thrive when kept in groups of at least 4-6 individuals. They exhibit social behavior and are best maintained in a community setting where they can interact with their own kind.
Aquarium Setup
For optimal care, it is recommended to house Corydoras Gomezi in a tank with a minimum capacity of 80 liters (see table). The ideal tank setup includes a substrate of fine sand or clean rounded gravel. Providing some hiding spots and cover will help the fish feel secure in their environment, contributing to their overall well-being.
Feeding and Diet
As for feeding, Corydoras Gomezi are foraging omnivores. They readily accept a variety of sinking dried foods, along with small live and frozen options like chironomid larvae (bloodworm) and Tubifex. To ensure the fish remain healthy, it is essential to offer a diverse diet rather than relying on leftovers from other tank inhabitants or expecting them to act as tank cleaners.
Reproduction & Dimorphism
Breeding Corydoras Gomezi is similar to other species within the genus. A recommended breeding method involves maintaining a ratio of two or more males per female and performing specific water changes and adjustments in the tank to encourage spawning. Females tend to grow larger and become noticeably broader and deeper-bodied compared to males, indicating sexual dimorphism.
Habitat and Distribution
While the exact range of Corydoras Gomezi is not extensively documented, they are known to inhabit the 'Tres Fronteras' region of the western Amazon river basin, where the borders of Brazil, Colombia, and Peru converge. The species was originally discovered in the lakes of Isla de Mocagua in the Amazon River near Leticia, Comisaría del Amazonas, Colombia.
