General Description

Echinodorus 'Apart' is a variety of dark green sword plant that closely resembles Echinodorus opacus and E. portoalegrensis. Bred by Hans Barth in Germany, this hybrid plant has ovate-lanceolate leaves that are firm and dark green with lighter-coloured veins. It is a slow grower but compared to its wild forms, it has lower demands and grows at a faster rate. The plant has been in cultivation since 1994 and can develop a brownish hue on its young, freshly sprouted leaves.

Aquarium Suitability

Echinodorus 'Apart' is suitable for aquariums and is categorized as an easy plant to care for. It can be used in various positions within the tank, including as a midground or foreground plant, as a specimen plant, or in groups. (see table for specifics)

Demands and Hardiness

Echinodorus 'Apart' has specific requirements to thrive in an aquarium environment. It prefers medium to high lighting and thrives in temperatures between 20-29°C. It can tolerate a temperature range of 15-30°C and requires a pH level between 5-7. Additionally, the plant needs a carbon dioxide level of 10-40mg/l, carbonate hardness between 0-21, iron concentration of 0.01-0.5mg/l, nitrate levels of 10-50mg/l, phosphate levels of 0.1-3mg/l, and potassium levels between 5-30mg/l.

Aquascaping & Usage

Echinodorus 'Apart' can be used in aquascaping setups to create a lush and vibrant underwater environment. Its dark green leaves with lighter veins provide contrast and depth to the tank. Due to its slow growth rate, it is essential to consider its placement in the aquarium to prevent overcrowding.

Propagation

This plant can be propagated through proliferating inflorescences and rhizome division. By carefully separating the rhizomes or utilizing the plant's flowering structures, new Echinodorus 'Apart' specimens can be cultivated.

Habitat and Distribution

As a cultivated variety, Echinodorus 'Apart' does not have a specific native habitat. However, it thrives in submerged conditions in aquariums and can also be grown outdoors, making it a versatile plant for aquatic environments.
