General Description

Echinodorus 'Dschungelstar' Nr. 1 is a cultivated variety developed in the early 1990s by Julius Hoechstetter of Trostberg. This plant can reach a maximum height of 40-50 cm, featuring leaf stalks that can grow up to 25 cm long and blade-like leaves that reach lengths of up to 30 cm and widths of 4 cm. The narrow leaves bear resemblance to Echinodorus uruguayensis "horemanii rot," albeit being slightly lighter in color with a prominently wavy and serrated leaf margin. This variety of Echinodorus displays relatively slow growth.

Aquarium Suitability

Echinodorus 'Dschungelstar' Nr. 1 is considered suitable for aquariums with its ease of care and adaptability. For specific demands and hardiness information, refer to the provided table.

Demands and Hardiness

The plant thrives in moderate lighting conditions ranging from medium to high. It requires a temperature range of 20-28°C and can tolerate temperatures between 15-30°C. Water parameters include a pH level between 5-7, carbon dioxide levels of 10-40mg/l, and nutrients such as nitrate (10-50mg/l), phosphate (0.1-3mg/l), iron (0.01-0.5mg/l), and potassium (5-30mg/l). Carbonate hardness should be maintained between 0-21.

Aquascaping & Usage

Echinodorus 'Dschungelstar' Nr. 1 is versatile in aquascaping, suitable for background, midground, or even as a specimen plant due to its striking appearance and moderate growth rate. Its unique leaf shape and coloration can add visual interest to aquascape layouts.

Propagation
