It is a fast-growing plant with low-growing leaf rosettes that reach heights of only 10-20 cm. The submersed leaves are narrowly elliptic, olive green, with dark red oblong spots, resembling Echinodorus maculatus 'Leopard'. New leaves tend to take on a brownish-red hue when exposed to ample light, while emersed plants display light green leaves with weak red spots and slightly undulated margins.
