Exhibiting emersed growth, this plant is a rosette type with distinct narrow leaves. It was previously misidentified as Cryptocoryne tonkinensis, now acknowledged as a new variety, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. kubotae.
Aquarium Suitability
With its classification as an aquatic plant and its aptness for emersed growth, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis is deemed suitable for aquariums. It thrives in temperatures ranging from 20-26°C and exhibits tolerance within a range of 8-30°C. This species is ideal for the background to midground of aquarium setups offering low to high light levels.
Demands and Hardiness
Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis presents adaptable demands concerning water conditions. It requires a pH range of 6-9, carbonate hardness between 5-21, and a nitrate concentration of 10-50mg/l. Additionally, it thrives in varying levels of carbon dioxide (5-40mg/l), iron (0.01-0.5mg/l), phosphate (0.1-3mg/l), and potassium (5-30mg/l).
Aquascaping & Usage
Perfect for enhancing the aesthetic appeal of aquariums, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis brings a visually pleasing aspect to aquascaping designs. Its narrow leaves and rosette growth make it an excellent choice for adding depth and texture to the aquatic landscape.
Propagation
This plant propagates through various methods, including runners, rhizomteilung, splitting, and cutting off daughter plants. With these propagation techniques, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis can easily multiply and fill out the designated space within the aquarium.
Habitat and Distribution
In its natural habitat, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis is indigenous to regions in Northern Vietnam and southeastern China (Guangxi). The plant thrives in aquatic environments, typically found in freshwater bodies in these areas, showcasing its adaptability to varying water conditions and temperature ranges.
