General Description
This aquatic plant, likely originating from tropical Asia, potentially within the genus Floscopa, displays characteristics resembling Floscopa scandens. Belonging to the Commelinaceae family, closely related to Murdannia and Tradescantia, it features wide lanceolate leaves, rigid upright stems, and a bright green coloration. In submerged conditions, the plant adapts with undulating leaf margins and a slightly downward tip.

Demands and Hardiness
Submersed cultivation of Commelinaceae sp. "Green" requires strong light, softer acidic-neutral water, proper CO2 supplementation, and a nutrient-rich substrate. It is a slow-growing plant that benefits from regular trimming to promote lateral shoot growth. Emersed cultivation in well-lit areas with moderate moisture is easier and can even be maintained as a houseplant. For optimum growth, the plant prefers temperatures between 22-26°C and tolerates a range of 18-30°C.
Aquascaping & Usage
This unique plant thrives in aquariums with varying stem lengths to create a visually striking group. Its vibrant green coloration contrasts beautifully against dark backgrounds or fine-leaved reddish plants, making it an excellent choice for Dutch-style or Tonina-style tanks. Additionally, in its semi-emersed form, it adds interest to paludariums, ripariums, and moist terrariums.
Propagation
Propagation of Commelinaceae sp. "Green" is primarily achieved through cuttings, which can be planted individually with spacing in the substrate. Trimmed stems develop lateral shoots that can be used as additional cuttings for expansion. The plant tends to bloom under short-day conditions, producing compact inflorescences with small white-pale purple flowers on hirsute stalks and sepals.
Habitat and Distribution
The precise habitat and distribution of Commelinaceae sp. "Green" are unclear, but it is believed to originate from tropical Asia. It exhibits a versatile growth pattern that transitions well from terrestrial to aquatic environments, making it suitable for both submerged and emersed cultivation.
