General Description

Najas sp. "Roraima," a species of Najas genus from the Brazilian state of Roraima, exhibits rigid, curving leaves with a serrate margin, making it less brittle and invasive than other Najas species. Its compact growth and dark brown leaf serrate create a visually appealing pattern with a light green-reddish-brown background. The plant can display wine-red shoot tips under intense lighting and grows both floating just below the water surface and planted in substrate or wedged in crevices.

Aquarium Suitability

Suitable for aquariums, Najas sp. "Roraima" is occasionally available commercially and from other hobbyists. Aquarium setup demands include medium-high lighting, carbon dioxide levels of 15-40mg/l, a pH range of 5-7.5, and a temperature range of 20-28°C. See the table for more details on water conditions.

Demands and Hardiness

With an easy difficulty level, Najas sp. "Roraima" grows fast and belongs to the Hydrocharitaceae family. Its propagation methods include fragmentation, cuttings, and splitting. The plant is versatile, suitable for background, midground, and even as a foreground group in aquascaping due to its well-branched, bushy growth.

Aquascaping & Usage

Aquascaping with Najas sp. "Roraima" involves incorporating its bushy growth to create visually appealing backgrounds, midgrounds, or group settings. Its aesthetic appeal, compact growth, and unique leaf patterns make it a desirable choice for aquarists looking to add variety to their tanks.

Propagation

Propagation of Najas sp. "Roraima" can be achieved through fragmentation, cuttings, or splitting, as well as by cutting off daughter plants. This allows for easy expansion of the plant within the aquarium and sharing with other hobbyists.

Habitat and Distribution
