General Description

Nymphoides ezannoi, commonly known as Floating Heart, is a species of aquatic plant belonging to the Menyanthaceae family. Originating from the north of the African tropics, specifically from Senegal to Sudan, this plant typically thrives in stagnant waters. The roundish floating leaves of N. ezannoi can reach sizes of 5-10 cm and produce white flowers with a yellow center.

Aquarium Suitability

Nymphoides ezannoi is highly suitable for aquariums, making an excellent addition to open tanks or the water section of paludariums. It is a fast-growing plant that requires planting in nutrient-rich substrate for optimal growth. While it may initially develop submerged leaves in an aquarium, they will eventually transition to floating leaves.

Demands and Hardiness

N. ezannoi is considered an easy plant to cultivate, given its low maintenance requirements. It thrives in water with a temperature range of 24-30°C and a pH level between 5-8. The plant prefers medium to high light conditions and benefits from moderate levels of nutrients such as carbon dioxide, iron, and potassium.

Aquascaping & Usage

Ideal for use on the water surface, Nymphoides ezannoi adds a touch of beauty to aquascapes with its delicate white flowers. As a rooting plant with floating leaves, it can create a lush and vibrant aquatic environment, especially when planted in groups.

Propagation

Propagation of N. ezannoi primarily occurs through proliferating inflorescences, allowing the plant to reproduce and spread in suitable conditions.

Habitat and Distribution

In its natural habitat, Nymphoides ezannoi thrives in permanent or periodically dry stagnant waters in the African tropics. It is found in regions ranging from Senegal to Sudan, where it adapts to varying environmental conditions for growth and survival.
