General Description

Plagiochila integerrima, also known as Plagiochila cf. integerrima or by the synonyms Plagiochila clavaeflora Stephani, Plagiochila dichotoma var. laxa Gottsche, Lindenb. & Nees, Plagiochila radicans Stephani, Tylimanthus chenagonii Stephani, and Tylimanthus lespagnolii Stephani, is a species of liverwort in the family Plagiochilaceae. It belongs to the major group of Liverworts (Marchantiophyta) and is classified under the order Jungermanniales. Native to Tropical Africa and Madagascar, this plant is mainly found in tropical regions.

Aquarium Suitability

Plagiochila integerrima is suitable for aquariums, with a compatibility rating of "yes." However, it is rarely available commercially or from other aquarists due to its limited availability. Its emersed growth and slow plant growth make it a unique addition to aquatic setups.

Demands and Hardiness

This liverwort species has low to medium light requirements, making it suitable for setups with such conditions. While it is considered an easy plant to care for, its very slow growth rate should be taken into consideration when planning aquascaping with Plagiochila integerrima. For detailed care requirements, refer to the table above.

Aquascaping & Usage

Plagiochila integerrima can be used in aquascaping as an epiphyte, growing on hardscape materials within the aquarium. It is particularly suitable for nano tanks due to its size and growth habits. When incorporated thoughtfully, it can add a unique touch to the overall design of the underwater landscape.

Propagation

Propagation of Plagiochila integerrima is typically done through splitting or cutting off daughter plants. This method allows for the expansion of the plant within the aquarium, enabling aquarists to create a fuller and more dynamic aquascape over time.

Habitat and Distribution

In its natural habitat, Plagiochila integerrima thrives in Tropical Africa and Madagascar. It is commonly found in these regions, showcasing its adaptability to the tropical climate and ecosystem dynamics. The plant's distribution in the wild provides insights into its preferred growing conditions and habitat requirements.
