General Description
The Limnophila aromatica "Mini," originally known as Limnophila sp. "Mini" or L. sp. "Kalimantan Mini," is a small stem plant resembling a dwarf form of L. aromatica. It features serrated underwater leaves that are brown-red under intense lighting, with noticeable silvery spots representing stomata. The emersed leaves are coarser and medium-green in color.
Aquarium Suitability
The plant is considered suitable for aquariums, particularly nano tanks, as a midground or foreground plant. It thrives in groups and can reach heights exceeding 30 cm, but is most aesthetically pleasing in groups of around 10-20 cm tall plants.
Demands and Hardiness
Limnophila aromatica "Mini" has medium difficulty care requirements and grows fast when provided with ample lighting, carbon dioxide (CO2), and nutrient supply. It thrives in water conditions with high light levels and temperatures between 22-26°C. The plant is unsuitable for outdoor use in colder climates.
Aquascaping & Usage
This plant is a suitable addition for aquascaping, especially for creating lush foreground or midground layouts. Its vibrant brown-red underwater leaves add visual interest, particularly under intense lighting conditions.
Propagation
Propagation of Limnophila aromatica "Mini" is commonly done through cuttings. When maintained under optimal conditions, this plant can be propagated easily to expand or replenish existing groupings.
Habitat and Distribution
The exact origin of Limnophila aromatica "Mini" is uncertain, but it is speculated to have been found in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo island. This aquatic plant belongs to the family Plantaginaceae and is typically available commercially on occasion or through other aquarists.
