General Description

This Limnophila cf. hippuridoides "Mini" is a relatively small and bushy stem plant that gained popularity in the aquarium hobby around 2020. Belonging to the Plantaginaceae family, it resembles a miniature version of Limnophila hippuridoides, with whorls of 4-7, mostly 5, leaves per whorl. The plant exhibits light reddish shoot tips and red-violet undersides on its leaves, turning light green in low light conditions, and grows at a moderate pace.

Aquarium Suitability

Considered suitable for aquariums, this plant requires medium to high lighting, CO2 levels between 20-40mg/l, and a temperature range of 22-27°C. It thrives in water conditions with a pH of 6-7.5, carbonate hardness of 2-12, nitrate levels between 10-50mg/l, phosphate levels of 0.1-3mg/l, iron concentration of 0.01-0.5mg/l, and potassium levels of 5-30mg/l.

Demands and Hardiness

The Limnophila cf. hippuridoides "Mini" is classified as having medium difficulty in care requirements. Though its winter hardiness is unknown, it can be grown emersed and propagated via cuttings. This plant exhibits a temperature tolerance range of 15-30°C.

Aquascaping & Usage

Ideal for aquascaping, this plant can be used to create lush and vibrant aquatic landscapes due to its compact growth and attractive leaf coloration. Its smaller size and branching nature make it a versatile choice for adding texture and visual interest to aquarium layouts.

Propagation

Propagation of Limnophila cf. hippuridoides "Mini" can be easily achieved through stem cuttings. By planting these cuttings in a suitable substrate with adequate nutrients and lighting, new growth can be encouraged, allowing the plant to propagate and fill out the aquarium environment.

Habitat and Distribution

While the exact origin of this plant is unknown, it is believed to originate from tropical Asia, similar to its relatives Limnophila hippuridoides and Limnophila aromatica. The distribution of Limnophila cf. hippuridoides "Mini" in the wild and its specific habitat preferences remain to be fully documented.
