General Description
The Green Bubble Tip Anemone, scientifically known as Entacmaea quadricolor, is a stunning anemone species belonging to the Actiniidae family. With its bulbous tips and varying shades of color, this ornamental creature is a captivating addition to a home reef aquarium.
Aquarium Suitability
This anemone is moderately demanding and requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with strong lighting. Providing suitable conditions for its growth, such as bright lighting and appropriate tank mates like Clownfish, is crucial for its well-being.
Demands, Care, and Hardiness
Moderately demanding, the Green Bubble Tip Anemone thrives under moderate to high aquarium lighting. It can potentially reach a size of up to 30.5cm in diameter but often remains compact in bright light. Maintaining water parameters within the ranges of pH 8.1-8.4, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and a carbonate hardness (KH) of 8-12 is essential for its health.
Reef Suitability
Considered reef-compatible with caution, this anemone can be placed in a reef aquarium, but its semi-aggressive temperament may pose a risk to other anemones and corals if they encroach upon its territory.
Aquarium Setup
In the aquarium, the Green Bubble Tip Anemone should be placed among deeply creviced live rock or branchy corals on sandy substrate, mimicking its natural habitat. It may roam until finding a suitable spot to settle, showcasing its mobility.
Behaviour
This anemone displays semi-aggressive behavior, especially towards other anemones and corals that invade its space. Care should be taken to prevent stinging incidents within the aquarium.
Feeding and Diet
Feeding on chopped fish, shrimp, or worms is essential for the Green Bubble Tip Anemone's nutrition if Clownfish are not present as symbiotic partners. A well-rounded diet supports its health and vitality.
Dimorphism
Individuals can vary greatly in color, ranging from soft browns and tans to shades of maroon or green. Red variations are often known as Rose Anemones. The Green Bubble Tip Anemone can reproduce in captivity under suitable conditions, adding to the diversity of colors observed.
Habitat and Distribution
Found across oceans worldwide, the Green Bubble Tip Anemone attaches its pedal disc deep within dead coral or live reefs. Varieties from Fiji and Tonga tend to exhibit softer hues, while those from Sri Lanka typically feature a distinctive green coloration with a deep maroon base.
