General Description

The Spotnape cardinalfish, scientifically known as Ostorhinchus notatus, belongs to the Apogonidae family. These fish typically have a large mouth and are well suited for aquariums, known for their various shapes and colors. They are nocturnal creatures and tend to be most active when the light is dimmed or turned off. Cardinalfish can usually be found seeking hiding spots during the day, such as between live rocks, SPS corals, anemones, or even among the spines of Sea urchins.

Aquarium Suitability

The Spotnape cardinalfish is generally considered suitable for most aquarium setups. They can be kept either on their own or in a group, as they are typically peaceful towards other fish. However, they may engage in fights amongst themselves if space or food becomes scarce. However, caution is advised if keeping them with smaller crustaceans, as these fish may view shrimps and crabs as potential prey due to their relatively small size.
