General Description
The Threadfin cardinalfish, also known as Apogon leptacanthus, is a species that displays blue markings on their sides, although the clarity of these markings can vary.
Aquarium Suitability
Belonging to the Apogonidae family, Cardinalfish are known for their diverse shapes and colors, making them generally well-suited for aquarium environments. They have a large mouth and a hearty appetite, predominantly feeding on Artemia, Mysis, and krill. In captivity, they are not picky eaters and will consume various foods; however, they may occasionally prey on small shrimps and fish. While peaceful towards other tank mates, cardinalfish may exhibit aggression towards their kind if space or food is limited. Many species are nocturnal and seek shelter during the day, often gravitating towards hiding places among corals, anemones, or sea urchin spines.
Demands, Care, and Hardiness
These fish are docile yet shy, requiring caution when kept with more aggressive species. They are best kept in groups of five or more individuals and will thrive if provided adequate space and companionship. Their hardiness is considered average, necessitating a tank size of at least 100 liters.
