These fish exhibit a wide range of behaviors, varying not only between species but also among individual specimens. Triggerfish are typically not reef-safe and present a challenge to maintain in a coral aquarium due to their aggressive tendencies towards other fish.

These fish have an average hardiness level and necessitate a varied diet for optimal health. Owners should be prepared to provide a diet consisting of krill, Mysis, shrimps, crabs, mussels, small fish, octopus, snails, and algae-based foods.

Reef Suitability
The Balistidae Triggerfish are not considered reef-safe, as they are inclined to disturb corals and may prey on small crustaceans present within a reef environment. Keeping them in a coral aquarium poses a significant challenge due to their predatory instincts.

They have been observed making grunting sounds when feeling threatened and may interact playfully with their owners. However, caution is advised as these fish have been known to bite fingers or arms.

Feeding and Diet

Their diet should consist of various food sources such as fish, larger crustaceans (shrimp, crabs), other invertebrates, and small crustaceans like krill, mysis, and artemia.
