General Description

The Hairtail blenny, also known as the Snake blenny, is a member of the Blenniidae family - Xiphasia, showcasing an oblong shape with a long dorsal fin. These blennies are commonly found in the Indo-West Pacific region, from the Red Sea to Australia. With a maximum size of 53.0cm, they are known for their nocturnal behavior and preference for sandy substrates and hiding places among live rocks.

Aquarium Suitability

This species is deemed suitable for aquariums, especially larger ones exceeding 1000 liters, where they can have ample space to move around. Hairtail blennies are known to be average in hardiness and are recommended to be kept on their own in an aquarium due to potential aggressive behavior towards similar species.

Demands, Care and Hardiness

Hairtail blennies require a well-decorated aquarium with adequate hiding places and a sandy substrate for digging. They thrive best in dimly lit environments as they are nocturnal creatures.
