General Description
The Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasse, scientifically known as Cirrhilabrus punctatus, is predominantly green in color with a white underside, featuring numerous small white spots that may intensify based on its mood. Both male and female Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasses exhibit similar coloring, except for the male's color changes during courting displays.
Aquarium Suitability
The Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasse is a peaceful and active fish, well-suited for fish-only or reef aquariums of 90 gallons or larger. They pose no threat to corals or invertebrates, making them an ideal addition to reef setups. However, caution is advised as they have a tendency to jump; thus, a securely fitted canopy is recommended to prevent escape.
Demands, Care and Hardiness
Requiring a minimum tank size of 340 litres, this species of wrasse is considered easy to care for. They thrive in saltwater environments with stable water conditions, including a pH range of 8.1-8.4, a specific gravity between 1.020-1.025, and a carbonate hardness (KH) of 8-12.
Reef Suitability
The Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasse is reef-compatible and will not harm corals or invertebrates, making them an excellent choice for reef aquariums. Their peaceful temperament makes them a valuable addition to mixed-reef setups.
Aquarium Setup
For optimal care, the aquarium housing the Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasse should be decorated with live rock structures and ample swimming space. A varied diet is essential, consisting of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, along with high-quality marine flake and pellet foods.
Behaviour
Known for their peaceful demeanor, Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasses are active swimmers that contribute vibrancy to the aquarium. Males may exhibit color changes during courtship displays, adding an element of visual interest to the tank.
Feeding and Diet
Carnivorous in nature, the Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasse should be fed a diet rich in vitamin-enriched frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp, supplemented with high-quality marine flake and pellet foods to ensure a balanced nutritional intake.
Dimorphism and Captive Reproduction
The Fine Spotted Fairy Wrasse displays minimal dimorphism between males and females, with notable color variations in males during courtship. While captive reproduction of this species is possible, it requires specific breeding conditions and expertise.
