General Description
The Rock Flower Anemone, or Green Rock Anemone, belongs to the Phymanthidae family and originates from the Caribbean. These anemones come in various colors, typically with a distinct oral disc coloration compared to the rest of their bodies. They sport tentacles with a beaded appearance and lack tentacles on their oral disc.
Aquarium Suitability
Rock Flower Anemones, generally hardy, are great for reef aquariums due to their preference for shaded, vertical rock walls or burrowing into substrate. They are unlikely to roam the tank.
Demands
Moderate care levels are necessary for these carnivorous anemones. They adapt well to different lighting conditions and require a diet of meaty foods like mussels and chopped fish, along with quality frozen foods. Iodine and trace elements in the water will enhance their health.
Care and Hardiness
Rock Flower Anemones are moderately hardy creatures, adapting to a range of lighting conditions and requiring a diet of meaty foods. They can reach a size of approximately 20.3cm and prefer water parameters with a pH of 8.1-8.4, a specific gravity of 1.023-1.025, and a dKH of 8-12.
Reef Suitability
With caution, Rock Flower Anemones can be incorporated into reef aquariums, being ideal for adding vibrant colors and texture to the ecosystem.
Aquarium Setup
It is recommended to provide moderate water flow in the tank for these anemones. They thrive in environments with adequate lighting and should be placed in areas where they can bury most of their bodies in sand, leaving only their oral disc and tentacles visible.
Behaviour
Often found living singly or in groups, Rock Flower Anemones showcase aggressive tendencies. They prefer to anchor themselves securely in shaded, vertical rock walls or substrate.
Feeding and Diet
As carnivorous creatures, these anemones feed on meaty foods such as mussels and chopped fish. High-quality frozen foods and supplementation with iodine and trace elements will contribute to their overall well-being.
Habitat and Distribution
Rock Flower Anemones primarily inhabit the Caribbean region and are commonly found residing on shaded, vertical rock walls or burrowing into sand within the substrate.
